About Eating Disorders

Hi there! Kel here – writing to tell you a little more about myself.

The work that I do involves me wearing a few different hats—at various times, I am a Counsellor / Psychotherapist, an Educator, and a Researcher. I am deeply passionate about understanding the intricacies of Eating Disorders and sharing that knowledge with others, whether it involves working one-on-one with someone affected by an Eating Disorder, teaching a room full of professionals, or delving into research data.

From the comfort of my therapy room, I run a busy private practice, available both in person and online. My work blends Integrative, Existential and Humanistic approaches to support individuals on their journey to recovery.  My goal is always to create a safe space for exploration and for healing.

Led by the belief that knowledge truly is a superpower, I’m on a mission to break down barriers to recovery by exploring topics like eating disorder awareness, weight bias, and that delicate dance of risk management and harm in eating disorder care.

Beyond the therapy room, my time is dedicated to delivering CPD events, contributing to research, and actively publishing with the Lived Experiences of Eating Disorders Research Collective (LEED) and other collaborators. My commitment to making a difference extends to my three-times award-nominated blog, ‘Mental Health Bites,’ and its related YouTube channel. Speaking of things online, I’m also the creator of ‘The Eating Disorder Recovery Companion,’ an online subscription service for those facing long waiting lists or struggling to access the care that they need. And let’s not forget my role as a Beat Ambassador— for over 15 years and counting! This has led to my involvement in a wealth of co-production projects and lived experience participation.

Whilst on the topic of lived experience, I’ve personally walked the path to Eating Disorder recovery (yes, full recovery) and am proud to let that challenge inform the work that I do.

On the credentials front, I’m a fully Accredited member of the BACP and a Fellow of the International Society for Psychotherapy and Counselling (ISPC). If you’re curious about my qualifications and ongoing professional development, feel free to explore my Qualifications & CPD page.

When I’m not immersed in the worlds of therapy, advocacy, or research, you’ll find me curled up with my furry sidekick, Tilly, or tending to my small veg garden—because even therapists need downtime to recharge.

So, whether you’ve arrived here looking for support, for education, or something else, I hope that I can be of help. My commitment is to offer support, to share knowledge, or to contribute in any way that feels meaningful. I look forward to working with you.
